We're putting on a two-week challenge to #Rockdown during lockdown for a chance to win a free band class ($175 value)! The challenge starts on March 20th and ends April 3rd.
Quarantine sucks. But there's no reason we can't continue playing our instruments, learning new techniques, sharing our creative talents, and supporting each other along the way.
What is #Rockdown?
For 14 days, we encourage our community to commit to playing their instrument and writing a small piece of a song for at least 15 minutes a day. Participants will share their process by posting a video on Facebook or Instagram, and tagging @femmerock and #rockdown. Throughout the next two weeks, Femme Rock will provide support and share instructional videos to help you with the process and hopefully give you some inspiration along the way.
Who Can Participate?
We'd love to have the entire Femme Rock community participating in this challenge. However, we'd be especially stoked to hear from you if you...
Have never played an instrument before.
Want to get into songwriting, but you’ve been too afraid to start.
You’ve been playing for a while and need to break out of a rut.
All instruments welcome, lyrics not required.
Rules & Guidelines:
The 14-day #rockdown challenge takes place from Friday, March 20 - Friday, April 3. We challenge you to spend at least 15 minutes with your guitar, bass, drum set, keyboard, singing voice, or any other instrument of choice every single day for the next two weeks.
Anyone can enter at any time and participate for as long as they want but only those that complete all 14 days will be eligible to win.
Instagram posts and stories must tag @femmerock and #rockdown. Facebook posts must be public (not in the Femme Rock Community Group) and tag the Femme Rock Facebook Page and #rockdown. As long as there are 14 posts accounted for at the end of the challenge and you tag @femmerock, you’re good to go!
We will choose our favorite player who has completed the full 14-day #rockdown challenge to win a free band class ($175 value) on Saturday, April 4th. Hint: The more you amplify your #rockdown posts (all platforms), the better your chances are of winning.
The Grand Prize
The winner of #rockdown will win a free band class ($175 value) voucher to be used during any upcoming session in 2020.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter if I don’t sing or know how to play an instrument?
Absolutely! #Rockdown is intended to unite everyone and inspire creativity, no matter your skill level. We encourage those who are learning to participate as a way to document and showcase your progress over two weeks.
Do I need to write lyrics, too?
Nope! Only if this is something you've been wanting to explore. If you don't feel comfortable singing or writing lyrics, you can focus on a single riff, chord progression, beat, or even hum an original melody.
Do only skilled players have a chance at winning?
Nope! Players of all skill levels have an equal chance of winning. What will help your chances is getting lots of love and support on your posts! So don't be afraid to get vulnerable.
How do I sign up?
There’s no official signup—just start writing on Friday, March 20th, and document your riff, chord progression, melody, etc. every day on Facebook or Instagram, tag @femmerock and #rockdown until Friday, April 3rd.
Do I need to write something original, or can I practice something that someone else wrote?
Ideally, we'd like to see you take your playing to the next level and come up with something on your own. However, if you want to use this #rockdown to brush up on technique or learn from your favorite players and songwriters, that's fine too!
Do I need to post a video or me playing, or can it be a photo?
Your #rockdown post needs to be in video format so we can see and hear what you're playing. We just need to see your instrument -- so if you'd feel more comfortable not showing your face, that's totally fine.
Do my posts need to be a certain length?
Nope! Your intro, verse, chorus, bridge, etc. can be as long or short as you'd like.
Do I need to be a womxn to participate?
Any person of any gender can participate, however we will only choose someone who is female or non-binary as the winner.
